Technical Notes: Crimping

·      Place crimpers away from model and make sure lead is not over model.
·     Make sure heat setting is suitable for models hair and any necessary product is in place such as heat protection spray.
·      Start with the underneath of hair and take hair in small sections.
·    Start at the root and clamp crimpers over hair for a few seconds and release and move down to the end of the hair in chunks.
·     When crimping hair at the top of the head hold hair upright and hold crimpers on their side in order to crimp the root of the hair.

Technical Notes: Using Padding

·      Choose padding which is closest to the colour of your models hair.
·    Put the padding on the head and pin in place using Kirby grips and bobby pins, and place them into the hair padding and turn away from it and then turn back in again and pin in securely.
·      When padding is securely in place, take hair section and pin over the padding.
·      Make sure there are no gaps in the hair so that the padding is visible.

Technical Notes: Frizzing Hair

·      Take a small section of hair.
·      Put through base of a wide hair clip.
·      Wrap hair in a figure of eight around clip.
·      Put a Kirby grip down the centre to hold in place.
·      Clamp straighteners up and down over the top of the hair for a few seconds.
·      Leave to cool and set.
·      Remove the Kirby grip and slide the wide grip from the hair.
·      Can brush through to give a proper frizzed effect.

Technical Notes: Tight Curls

·      Turn on tongs to 25.
·      Keep tongs away from model as they are very hot.
·      Section hair starting from the underneath.
·      Start with the section by ear.
·      Use small sections of hair as they are small curlers.
·      Open clamp to trap end of hair and then curl hair around tongs.
·      Hold wand upright.
·      Hold hair in place for 12 seconds.
·   On the top of the head hold the tongs sideways but remove the curl with the wand upright.
·      Don’t pull tongs out of hair, slide the hair down the tong and open and close the clamp in small motions to release tip of hair and keep the curl together.
·      To make curl go forward put barrel of tongs away from you and roll away from you.
·      To make curl go backwards put barrel away from you and roll towards you.
·    If models hair is thick, put Kirby clips in the curls to hold them together whilst they cool.

Technical Notes: Fishtail Plait

·      Can be done on whole of head or in sections of hair.
·      Split the hair into two equal sections.
·     Take small section of hair from the underneath on one side and cross it over to the other section of hair.
·      Repeat this process on each side until the plait is complete.
·    When doing the plait, don’t pull too tightly so that you can manipulate the hair more easily.
